The Barking Riverside extension project represented a significant effort to enhance transportation infrastructure in East London’s Barking Riverside area.

This endeavour included the creation of 4.5 km of new track and associated infrastructure, linking Barking Riverside to the A13 highway. The project’s scope encompassed the construction of bridges, roundabouts, cycle lanes, footpaths, and drainage systems.

Contractors VolkerFitzpatrick and Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure (MSVF) undertook the project with objectives to decrease congestion, enhance connectivity, and support the ongoing regeneration of Barking Riverside.

The newly developed infrastructure aims to improve access to residences, businesses, and amenities while enhancing connections to the broader road network.

The project facilitated the building of 10,000 homes at Barking Riverside, along with a new school, healthcare facilities, and a new district centre featuring commercial and leisure establishments, high-quality public spaces, and links to walking and cycling routes.

It also established a transport connection to Barking town centre, including District and Hammersmith & City Tube services, c2c services to London Fenchurch Street and Essex, and a link to the Elizabeth line station at Forest Gate via Wanstead Park.

The extension ensures reliable public transport within Barking Riverside, boosts transport accessibility through a step-free entry point at Barking Riverside station to other London Overground services and offers a sustainable public transport alternative to car travel. For the Barking Riverside extension, we supplied MSVF with a team of experienced and qualified supervisory staff, blue-collar workers, and security personnel, who were instrumental in supervising and executing essential construction tasks.
